19 year old Michael Guiford had a great football opportunity ahead of him playing for the 2006 National Championship winning Florida Gators. Until an early morning accident tragically ended his life along with his passenger Ashley Slonina. Miss Slonina, a junior at Florida University, was a passenger on the motorcycle driven by the 19 year old walk-on defensive back Guiford. Police state the motorcycle was traveling approximately 30 miles an hour above the speed limit when it hit a median strip near the university. Neither Guiford or Slonina were wearing a motorcycle helmet. Both died in the accident.  Police are unsure if alcohol or drugs played a part in the accident. Had the two been wearing a motorcycle helmet would this have prevented their untimely death? Who can say for sure although the local police at the scene of the accident expressed their opinion that Mr. Guiford and Miss Slonina would have lived had they been wearing motorcycle helmets. This is such a sad tragedy that most likely could have been avoided by better safety awareness by young riders but as we all know youth makes you feel invincible.
