Maxxcross IT Rear Tire.
From what I have read this new motocross tire is a decent choice for your motocross, enduro or trail motorcycle.  One report on the tire choose to test it on their 2007 Honda CRF450X Project Bike and the reports were very positive, especially considering the price. this new Maxxcross motorcycle tire is classed as a intermediate terrain motorcycle tire for use in most dirt riding applications. It has a good combination of knob design and compound that gives the vast majority of motocross and enduro riders great traction and performance from their motorcycle. the tire is easy to spoon onto your motorcycle rim and the rear tire hooks up great in moist dirt and loam but tends to spin and slip on dry or harder soil surfaces. Oddly this slipping improved as the tire began to wear a bit. The wear factor is very good so you can expect a set to stay on your motocross or trail motorcycle longer than softer compound tires.

Maxxcross SX Front Tire.
The test riders were fairly accustomed to using hard-terrain front tires where they ride, so choosing the Maxxcross SX didn't worry them very much. Most of their trails are decomposed granite or are connected by gravel roads so a lower-profile, wider set of lugs is very good. But, one of the factors over the recommended IT front was the fact that they wanted to try EnduroCross. Knowing that the rock pile and rock gardens would likely be some of the most challenging terrain, they wanted to get as much traction in those areas as possible - and the SX delivered.

The tire was designed for Supercross and Arenacross applications, but is right at home during trail rides and was capable enough even when the soil turned mushy in a few spots. Cornering was good, though the test bike was never the a very precise motorcycle to begin with. Cornering was good and the bite stayed pretty firm even when squirming through ruts or around flat turns. One particular area where the hard-terrain bias showed its weakness was on diagonal logs. Other than a tendency to slip on those the test riders were confident with front end traction.

The Conclusion.

When Maxxis comes to mind it generally is associated with affordability, but both of the tires tested retail for over $80. They aren't exactly cheap, but the MSRP is right in the ballpark with the rest of the market. Also, in the long run they might wind up saving a few bucks thanks to their longevity. A bit of break-in time and some extra getting used to were the test riders only negative comments. Maxxis has been expanding its support in off-road racing and the product line is growing as well. These motorcycle meats aren't the Holy Grail of motocross tire performance, but they do a really good job at a wide variety of tasks, the price is ok and they'll last a long time. That's a winning formula for most motocross, enduro or trail riders.
